EXPERIENCE

Jan has been an active member of the equestrian community for over forty years training with, and personally competing against some of the most legendary riders in the sport of show jumping today.  His students and horses compete at many venues all over the US from local shows to the "A" circuit. Jan's riders have earned titles including, the #1 ranked child rider in the US, #1 Jumper USHJA State of Florida, and the National Champion for Marshall Sterling.

COMMITMENT

Mr. Uiterwyk is a founding member, and has served as Vice President, of Stadium Jumping, Inc.; producers of The American Gold Cup, The Longines FEI World Cup, and the American Invitational.  Jan was also selected as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Grand Prix Association, a national organization that promoted Olympic-level show jumping in the United States until 2006.

COACHING STYLE

A Coach or Trainer is a very important figure in the lives of their athletes and students. A trainer's "coaching style" is a significant consideration in selecting a riding program.  Jan earns the respect of his students by first demonstrating his understanding of the student as an individual, and then tailoring his instruction to the rider and their goals.

I communicate the knowledge they need to be successful, guiding them through encouragement, to achieve their own personal best. Ultimately, it’s about learning. Horses can be great teachers. Sometimes, just being around horses can teach us life lessons and skills and give us wisdom about ourselves we might not have learned any other way.
